Aluminium – A true recycling champion!

Many of us are aware that we can recycle aluminium just like many other products these days; however there are some special qualities that truly make aluminium recycling a planet saving process. Here are our favourite facts:

• It is easier to recycle aluminium than it is to produce it. The process of creating the usable aluminium we are all familiar with from bauxite ore is lengthy and costly, the recycling process is actually quicker and cheaper.
• It is more economical to recycle aluminium than produce it. Recycling aluminium saves up to 95 percent of the energy required versus producing new metal from the bauxite ore.
• There is no limit to how many times aluminium can be recycled. Due to the fact that aluminium can be recycled back into its original form without losing any of its properties, the cycle is limitless.
• Nearly 75% if all aluminium produced is still in use today. Because of aluminium’s properties and (most importantly) ease of recycling to its usable form again and again, the loop in truly closed.
• The most valuable material in the recycling bin. Aluminium is the most recyclable of all materials. Discarded aluminium is more valuable than any other item in the recycling bin.
• One tonne of aluminium saves: 9 tonnes of CO2, 14,000 kWh of energy, 1,663 gallons of oil and nearly 8 cubic metres of landfill space.
• Aluminium is plentiful. Aluminium is the most abundant element on the planet, making up 8 percent of the earth’s crust.

The use of aluminium can help us change our habits on a global scale to challenge climate change and reduce the human impact on the world. This is vital for generations to come. Our choices now can have a huge effect on what we leave behind. We truly believe that aluminium is a champion of sustainability!
