Spartal MD Richard Evans Tackles the London Marathon 2021 for MS Society
This year our Managing Director, Richard Evans, is planning to run the London Marathon on 3rd October in support of the MS Society. Here, Richard explains why this charity is so close to home:
“On Sunday 3rd October 2021 I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for the MS Society. The sponsorship money raised will support their vital work funding world-leading research, sharing latest information and campaigning for everyone’s rights regarding Multiple Sclerosis.
I was diagnosed with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis late 2012 following a number of neurological issues in previous years. With a young family and a recently acquired manufacturing company reliant on me, it was a devastating blow. Fortunately, with the support of my family, friends, colleagues, the NHS and organisations including the MS Society and with a bit of luck, I am currently managing the battle with minimal personal impact. Hopefully this remains the case but if the MS Society can help find methods to further delay debilitating symptoms or even cure MS that won’t just be great for me but also for the over 130,000 people living with MS in the UK and over 2 Million worldwide.
I started running early in 2019 through Parkrun. To be honest I didn’t think I could do it. I thought that because of my MS my legs would buckle but they didn’t. But in the first few runs I did realise how unfit I was! Having persevered with it, I have come to enjoy it and am greatly looking forward to the London Marathon challenge, and who knows, perhaps getting a respectable time.
Thank you for reading my story.
Best wishes
Richard”
