A guide to specifying your tube component

As a leading manufacturer of specialist precision-drawn aluminium tubes, we understand that the success of your product depends on sourcing the parts.

We’re here to help guide you through the specification process to ensure that the tubes we provide meet your exact needs and exceed your performance expectations.

Design & specifications

We can work with you to define the exact dimensions, including diameter, wall thickness, and length, ensuring they align perfectly with your design. Our team can help you determine the necessary tolerances to ensure a perfect fit. Whether you need a drawn seamless or porthole-extruded and drawn tube, or a specific surface finish, we’ll help you pinpoint the ideal solution for your application.

Material properties

Selecting the correct aluminium alloy is essential for achieving the required performance, whether it’s strength, corrosion resistance, or heat tolerance. We can assist in choosing the appropriate aluminium grade. We’ll also ensure the mechanical properties such as tensile and yield strength are aligned with your product’s demands.

Application-specific guidance

Understanding your product’s operating environment is key. We can help assess factors such as exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, pressure, and suggest solutions to meet those challenges. If your application has weight constraints or load-bearing requirements, we’ll work with you to optimise the tube design for both performance and efficiency.

Manufacturing process

Our expertise in cold drawing allows us to recommend the best manufacturing process for your specific needs. If post-processing like CNC machining or forming is required, we’ll guide you through the necessary steps to ensure your product meets the highest tolerance demands, while maintaining cost-effectiveness.

Cost & lead time management

We’re here to help you balance cost and quality. Our team can provide cost estimates and assist you in selecting the best option based on your budget. We also take into account your production timeline, advising on minimum order quantities (MOQ) and lead times to ensure smooth, on-time delivery.

Compatibility with other components

Integrating your precision-drawn aluminium tube with other components is critical to overall product success. We’ll help you assess how the tube will be connected or fastened—whether through welding, adhesives, or mechanical means—so that it seamlessly fits into your assembly process.

Spartal Fabrication

Is further fabrication required?
See our Engineered Components section

Spartal Finish

Does your section require a surface finish?
The two most common options are anodising and powder coating. You can find more details on these treatments within our Surface Treatments section.

If you’d prefer your section supplied in mill finish, please let us know if you plan to surface treat it later. This helps us ensure we recommend the most suitable product.

Spartal Alloys

1000 Series:
Pure aluminium, excellent corrosion resistance, low strength.
2000 Series:
High-strength aluminium-copper alloys, used in aerospace, lower corrosion resistance.
3000 Series:
Moderate strength, good corrosion resistance, used in cans and cooking utensils.
4000 Series:
Silicon alloys, good for welding, lower melting point.
5000 Series:
Magnesium alloys, excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments.
6000 Series:
Magnesium-silicon alloys, versatile with good strength and corrosion resistance.
