A specialist aerospace use case

In aerospace protection systems, reliability is non-negotiable. Components must perform flawlessly in extreme conditions – there is no margin for inconsistency, poor tolerances, or material compromise.

Spartal recently supported a specialist aerospace protection application where precision drawn aluminium tube became a critical enabler.

The challenge

The customer required a lightweight, high-integrity tubular component to house and protect sensitive internal assemblies within a compact deployable device. The tolerances required meant drawn tube was the only viable solution.

Why precision drawn tube?

Cold drawn aluminium tube delivers dimensional control and material consistency that alternative processes struggle to match. The solution was focused on:

  • extremely tight, repeatable dimensional tolerances
  • precise and consistent wall thickness
  • improved concentricity and straightness
  • refined internal and external surface finish
  • lightweight mechanical strength

The result was a component that not only met structural requirements but actively enabled the wider system to function correctly — reducing the need for downstream machining and supporting long-term production repeatability. Spartal’s drawn tube solution gave the application the consistency and structural integrity needed for safe, dependable operation.

Spartal Finish

Does your section require a surface finish?
The two most common options are anodising and powder coating. You can find more details on these treatments within our Surface Treatments section.

If you’d prefer your section supplied in mill finish, please let us know if you plan to surface treat it later. This helps us ensure we recommend the most suitable product.

Spartal Alloys

1000 Series:
Pure aluminium, excellent corrosion resistance, low strength.
2000 Series:
High-strength aluminium-copper alloys, used in aerospace, lower corrosion resistance.
3000 Series:
Moderate strength, good corrosion resistance, used in cans and cooking utensils.
4000 Series:
Silicon alloys, good for welding, lower melting point.
5000 Series:
Magnesium alloys, excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments.
6000 Series:
